As a photographer based in Rockville, one of my absolute favorite things to photograph is families—especially kids. There’s something incredibly special about capturing real moments as they unfold: the giggles, the curiosity, the chaos, and the love that makes every family unique.
Rockville is such a perfect place for family photography. Between the green parks, quiet paths, and beautiful natural light, it gives kids space to be themselves. I never expect children to sit still or “pose perfectly.” In fact, the best photos usually happen when they’re doing the opposite—running, laughing, exploring, and just being kids. That’s when the real magic shows up.
When I photograph families, my goal is to keep things relaxed and fun. I guide you just enough so you never feel awkward, but I leave plenty of room for natural interaction. Parents don’t need to stress about kids being energetic or shy—both lead to beautiful, genuine images. Some of my favorite photos come from the in-between moments: a quick hug, a shared laugh, or a child proudly showing me a rock they found on the ground.
