Fall photo season is here, and one of the biggest questions I get before a session is always: “What should we wear?”
The good news? I’ve already done the hard part for you.
My updated style guide was created to help you put together outfits that photograph beautifully, complement each other, and still feel like you. You don’t need to show up in perfectly matching outfits or spend weeks stressing over what everyone should wear. In fact, I would much rather see colors, textures, layers, and pieces that work together than an entire family dressed exactly the same.
For fall sessions, think warm, rich, earthy colors like rust, burnt orange, cream, camel, olive green, mustard, deep blue, burgundy, and soft neutrals. These tones photograph beautifully and give your gallery that warm, cozy fall feeling without making your photos feel overly themed.
The biggest thing to remember is to coordinate instead of match.
Pick a few colors that work well together and build everyone’s outfits around those tones. You can mix solids with a subtle pattern, add texture with sweaters or knits, and use layers like jackets, cardigans, or dresses to give your photos more movement and dimension.
And ladies… dresses photograph SO beautifully. Longer dresses and skirts create movement and add that little extra something to your photos, especially when we are outside. They’re definitely not required, but if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear one, your photo session is a pretty good one.
Try to avoid large logos, neon colors, super busy patterns, and anything that might distract from the most important part of the photos — you and your family.

At the end of the day, I want you to look at your photos and see your family — not just what everyone was wearing. Your outfits should complement your connection, not compete with it.
